Kathy was born February 21, 1942 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Kathleen Rice Ford and Grover Mancil Ford. She spent her young childhood near Rome, Ga and in Florida, before her family moved to Macon when she was in the 3rd grade. She attended Miller Junior and Senior High for girls. She went to Maryville College in Tennessee and received a Master’s in Education from Mercer University.
Kathy loved reading, traveling, and math. She retired from the Bibb County Board of Education after serving as a High School math teacher at Northeast for many years. She was also an active member of her church, Northminster Presbyterian, where she served as a Deacon and on numerous church committees.
Her proudest achievements were her daughters, Diana and Catherine, whom she taught by example to be fearless and independent.
Kathy is survived by her brother Grover Ford; her two daughters Diana Wheeler (Don Redmond) and Catherine McClain; grandchildren Katherine Redmond, Lucy McClain, and Fox Redmond, who all called her ‘Gogo’, which is Zulu for grandmother. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Please join us in celebrating her life. Family visitation will be at Snow’s at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, on December 5, 2023 from 4-6 pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11 am at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Rd, Macon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes Ministry.
