Judy Collins Shiver, 80, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 24, 2020, with family by her side. A celebration of her life will be led by Rev. Lanny Earley on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 2 o'clock, in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. She will be buried in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery beside her late husband, Jamie "Shot" Shiver. Family will greet friends at the funeral home for the hour prior to service.
Mrs. Shiver was born in Mitchell County, Georgia to the late Lewis Gordon and Meta Lou Fitzgerald Collins. She graduated from Mitchell County High School and worked as a bookkeeper for many years before focusing her attentions on her home and her family. Judy was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and her church. She had the epitome of a servant's heart, always caring and tending to the needs of others, especially her family.
Judy's homemade coconut and chocolate cakes will live in the minds and tastebuds of friends and family for years to come. Mrs. Shiver met very few strangers and was eager to help in any way she saw fit, from providing meals and a free ride to someone in need, to providing a listening ear, though her "gift of gab" may have held visitors captive longer than originally anticipated. A certified Southern Lady, she will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Shiver was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jamie "Shot" Ashby Shiver, 2 sisters Jane Coalson, and Elizabeth "Bugs" Collins, and 1 precious great grandson, Caleb Duchaine.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Rhonda Perry and husband Wayne; Trina Peavy; grandchildren Tara Duchaine and husband Nick, Sarah Lynch and husband Thomas, Ashby Thornley and husband Josh, Jenna Patel and husband Ryan; great grandchildren, Drake Duchaine, Avery Duchaine, and Katherine Lynch soon to arrive; sister, Marie Fulford; brother, Rev. Fred Collins and wife Pat; brother in law, Terry Coalson; sister in law, Irene Hatcher; and a tremendous host of extended family and close friends.
