Joyce Padgett Bates, 74, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 after a short hospital stay at Houston Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 23 at 10:00am in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Brother Grady Mimbs officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. They will greet friends Friday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Joyce was born in Cochran, Georgia to the late Albert Padgett Sr. and Nellie Collins Padgett and was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Thomas “Tommy” H. Bates; sister, Patricia Hancock; and brothers, Lamar Padgett, Oliver Padgett, David “Red” Padgett and Albert Padgett, Jr. She was retired from Bates Roofing and Waterproofing.
Survivors include her daughter, Cassandra (Russell) Phillips; step daughters, Teresa (Millard) Purser and Renell Bates; step son, Thomas Hall Bates III; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Lavonia (Elton) Beck; and brother, Frank (Deborah) Padgett.
