Melvin was born in Macon to the late Augustus “Gus” and Rebecca “Reba” Weaver. He was of the Christian faith and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He served in the United States Army and was a graduate of Mercer University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He achieved the designation of “Master Gardener” sponsored by the American Horticultural Society. As a member of the Georgia Genealogical Society, Melvin was a dedicated historian and genealogist.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Frances Blackburn Weaver, of Byron. He is survived by daughter Lynn Weaver McCraney (Tim Vick) of Douglas, granddaughter Kathryn Sawyer McCraney of Gray, son Thomas Weaver (Kelly) of Atlanta, grandson William Daniel Weaver, son Christopher Joseph Weaver (Michelle) of Byron, and grandsons Nicholas, Benjamin and William of Cullman, Alabama.
A celebration of his life will be held at the family residence, Saturday, January, 21, 2017, 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA, 31088.
