Joseph R. “Joe” Gibbs, Sr., 85, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rex Odom. The family will meet friends on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winship Cancer Center of Emory University Hospital, 1365 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30322 or St. Jude’s Cancer Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Gibbs was born in Twiggs County, Georgia to the late C.W. and Dovie Collins Gibbs and was preceded in death by a brother and sister. He was a graduate of Lanier High School class of 1946, he served in the United States Navy during World War II, was retired from Robins Air Force Base and was a consultant with Texas Instruments for ten years. Mr. Gibbs was a member of the Rutland Masonic Lodge #298 for over fifty years and was a member of the Macon Motor Boat Club. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty four years, Mary Ann Gibbs of Macon, son, Joseph R. “Robby” Gibbs, Jr. of Macon, three daughters, Anita Becham, Gina (Terry) Clark, and Amy (Larry) Drawhorn all of Macon, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two brothers, James “Jim” E. Gibbs of Warner Robins, Ralph “Ray” Gibbs of Keysville, VA.
