Joseph “Joe” Franklin Brown, Sr., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 with his beloved family by his side. A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. John Beck and Rev. Josh Gale officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lizella United Methodist Church, 2920 S. Lizella Road, Lizella GA 31052.
Joe was born on July 26, 1933 to the late Effie Cardell Brown and U.I. Brown. Joe served two years in the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Macon as a Quarter Master Seaman. He worked for forty five years, for Georgia Kraft, Macon Kraft and Riverwood International. He was Union President of Local 572 and retired as Finish and Shipping Superintendent. Joe was former member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was the leader of the Bus Ministry for many years. He was a member of Lizella United Methodist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. He was a lifetime fisherman enjoying many fishing trips to the St. John’s River and he was one of the original founders of Western Little League where he coached for several years. Joe was also an avid golfer, where he was in several Senior Golf groups and enjoyed playing with groups at Bridgewood and Pine Needles.
He loved his family and leaving behind his wife of 64 years, Ruth Green Brown, three daughters, Mona (Jimmy) Astin, Kim (Larry) Spires, Kristy (Monty) Boling and one son, Joey (Melanie) Brown, six grandchildren, Chad Astin, Wesley Astin, Rachel Brown Mosely, Tyler Brown, Jillian Spires, and Chance Spires and six great grandchildren.
