John Mercer White, Jr., 76, of Macon, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 7, to be with his Lord and Savior. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 10 AM at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono with the Rev. Bob Carey. Entombment will follow at Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will greet friends on Friday, July 10 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Parkway Baptist Church, 5049 Log Cabin Drive, Macon, 31204.
John was born in Miami, Florida to the late J. Mercer and Ruby Irby White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosamond Lee Anderson White. John served in the U. S. Navy and was retired after 36 years from Armstrong World Ind.
John attended Virgil Power Grammar School and Lanier High School for Boys. He was a former member and Deacon of Pine Forest Baptist Church and was a member of Parkway Baptist Church. John was very active with the Middle Georgia C.B. Radio Club. He was in charge of the Virgil Power school reunion for three years. John was a Master Gardener and had a beautiful garden and yard. He also enjoyed traveling and camping. John and Lee had drive to every state except Hawaii (because they hadn't built a bridge yet).
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and their husbands, Beth (Kevin) Murphy of Nashville, TN and Tina Lynn (Eddie) Hairston of Eatonton; his son, Danny White of Macon, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
