John L. Floyd, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park with Pastor Jon Brown officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Al Sihah Shriners, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon, Georgia 31206.
John was born in Macon, Georgia and grew up in Payne City to the late Frances Darsey and James Bartley Floyd, and was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Hartley, Betty Holiday, and Mary Turner; and brother, James (Flugo) Floyd, Jr. He attended Lanier and Macon Vocational School – Crandall College. John was the previous owner of Floyd’s Standard Service Station on Napier Avenue, co-owner of Standard Service Station on Mercer University Drive and Friends on the Hill Bar in Warner Robins. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite- Shriner and a life member of the VFW, member of ATSA, life member of Chosen Few, member of the Moose Club and American Legion. John served with the National Guard, 48th Infantry in 1948, served with the Army 7th Division, Korea 1950-1951 at the Chosen Reservoir; two tours, 1966-1967 and 1969-1970 in Vietnam in the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service, and retired from Robins Air Force Base in 1970, 141 Production Controller after 27 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lula Floyd; son, Jay Floyd (Jimmy Adams) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, daughter, Scarlett Mathis (Dale) of Lizella, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Jason Mathis (Susanna), Michael Mathis, Chelsea Edwards (Allen), Aubrey Floyd and Loren Floyd; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Gillis; and brother, Dennis Floyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
