MACON – John Braxton “Brac” Bohannon, 71, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at a local hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Towson officiating. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Monday at the church. They suggest that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon 31210.
Mr. Bohannon, son of the late Oscar Bryant and Alma Virginia White Bohannon, was born in Hillsboro and had lived in Macon most of his life. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and had served as Chief Tax Assessor for Jasper County, Bibb County and Twiggs County and was retired from Monroe County Tax Assessors. Mr. Bohannon was proud of his Masonic background and was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Vineville Avenue. He was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Grace Bible Class. Mr. Bohannon was a gifted guitarist and singer and a model aviation enthusiast. He was a past president of Bibb County Board of Realtors. Mr. Bohannon was the brother of the late Walker Bohannon.
Survivors include his wife, Merry Middlebrooks Bohannon of Macon; his children, Beryl Bohannon Regula of Macon and Meridith Bohannon (Ted) Symon of Augusta; five grandchildren, Jessica Regula, Gostin Watson, Ridley Symon, Ellie Symon and Merry Martha Symon; his brother, Jim Bohannon of Milledgeville and several nieces and nephews.
