Macon, GA – Jimmy Ray Johns, 64, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Ave. The family will greet friends on Monday, January 17, 2011 from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Ave. Entombment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tim Luther officiating.
Mr. Johns was born in Sylacauga, AL to the late Cornelius and Ruby Zualla Weathers Johns. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Bailey, three brothers, Wayne, Ricky and Michael Johns. He was a retired truck driver with Overnite Trucking for twenty years and UPS for five years and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 728. Mr. Johns attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Crawford, County. He was an avid outdoors man loving to hunt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Byrd Johns of Macon, seven daughters, Misty, Karen, Kelly Bailey, Stephanie (Michael) Godshaw, Amy (Robbie) Bloodworth, Abby Williamson and Haley May Byrd, two sons, James Bailey and Gary Palmer, Jr., many grandchildren and great grandchildren, five sisters, Lucille Warner of College Park, Martha Martin of Douglasville, Patsy Smith of Barnesville, Brenda Todd of Texas, Faye Nutt of Union City, GA, one brother, Bobby Johns of Atlanta, several nieces and nephews.
