James Curtis Morgan, Sr., 90, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 2:00pm at First Christian Church, 2306 Vineville Avenue in Macon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be in the Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum and will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, or Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Rd., Macon, 31210.
He was born in Juliette, Georgia to the late James and Genie Kate Wilson Morgan and was preceded in death by his sons, Bob Morgan and Jim Morgan. Curtis moved to Macon at an early age. He was retired from McKesson Drug Company after 42 years of service and held several executive positions including Distribution Center Manager of the Macon and Albany, Georgia locations. Curtis was a WWII Navy veteran and served in communications aboard the destroyer, USS McDougal DD 358 in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He graduated from Lanier High School and attended Mercer University and the University of South Carolina. Curtis and his wife, Betty were members of First Christian Church in Macon.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Elizabeth “Betty” Marlowe Morgan; grandchildren, Laura (Tadd) Ryan, Alicia (Marek) Szramel, Curt (Katy) Morgan, Kyle Morgan and Molly Morgan; several great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Angie (Dick) Holcombe and Nancy Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
