James Arthur Allen, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 12, 2016. A Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 233 Peachtree St., SW, Suite #2225, Atlanta GA 30303.
Arthur was born in Macon, Georgia to the late James Sidney and Eldora Cook Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty five years, Jessie Janet Allen. He was a graduate of Lanier High School where he was in ROTC and the marching band, and was a graduate of Mercer University. He was a pitcher all through high school and college and played softball until the age of 75 and for many years he was an umpire. He was retired as the supervising chemist at Armstrong World Industries. Arthur was a member of Second Baptist, Avondale Baptist and Bellevue Baptist Churches, where served as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, a member of the choir and was a member of the Brotherhood. He was involved with Woodmen of the World, Moose Club and the Mr.& Mrs. Club “The Gang”. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. Arthur enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife and family.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan A. (Mel) Pyles of Signal Mountain, TN, Sharon L. Allen of Macon, Sylvia A. (Doug) Wiltsee of Ormond Beach, FL, Sheryl A. (Ted) Meza of Macon, four grandchildren, Tiffany S. Poole, Derek J. Mullis, Brandon C. Pyles, and Lisa M. Wiltsee, three great grandchildren, Davidson A. Poole, Abram M. Poole and Michaela S. Mullis, sister, Betty Allen (Curtis) Hart, and several nieces and nephews.
