Irene Smith Morris Wyatt, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, August 6, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 10:30am at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, with Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday night from 5:30pm until 7:30pm at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Mrs. Wyatt was born in Saltville, Virginia to the late William and Pearl Badger Smith and was preceded in death by her husbands, A. Ross Morris and Edward J. Wyatt; first son-in-law, Brad Vaughn; brother, Harry Smith; and sisters, Helen Klarpp and Dot Fore. She retired from the Macon-Bibb Sheriff Department as 2nd Lieutenant and was the first female to gain the rank of Lieutenant in the Bibb County Sheriff Department. Mrs. Wyatt was a Matron in the Bibb County Jail and her family was the last family to live in the Bibb County Courthouse. She also worked for the Red Cross in North Carolina, Pet Milk in Macon, and she helped set up the Camp Lejeune Campus of East Carolina College. Mrs. Wyatt loved serving her Lord and was a member of Mabel White Baptist Church. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara Dee Vaughn Pate (Joey) of Macon; grandchildren, Ross and Rachel Vaughn; step grandchildren, Joseph and Zachariah Pate; and special friends, Stuart and Sonya Minor of Atlanta.
