Hugh Dorsey Hudson, Sr. died on March 15, 2015 in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Hugh was born on November 24, 1917 in the Dunlap Hill area of Macon and raised in Jones County. He was predeceased by his parents, Alonza Lem Hudson and Minnie Hollomon, and siblings, Lillian Vaughn, Roy Hudson, and Alonza Lem Hudson, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Frances Hawthorne Hudson; three children: Shirley Driggars (Sonny), Linda Goldstein (Gordon), and Hugh Hudson Jr. (Cathie); seven grandchildren: Brian Driggars, Sam Graham (Heather), Diedre Driggars, Scott Graham (Stephanie), Scott Goldstein, Gena Graham Peterson (Brian), and Mark Goldstein (Amanda); and ten great-grandchildren: Katherine “Katie” Graham, Hudson Graham, Lukas Driggars, Emma Peterson, Lily Goldstein, Evan Graham, Connor Peterson, Hayden Graham, Grady Goldstein, and Carson Peterson; sister-in-law Dorothy LaPlante; and several nieces and nephews.
Hugh lived most of his life in Macon, and he worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base as a crew chief. He was a member of Plentitude Baptist Church as a young man, and a member of the Church of Christ after he married, attending Burton Avenue, South Side, Thomaston Road, and North Macon Churches of Christ. After he retired he enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening, playing pool, and watching Braves baseball. Although the last few years were challenging due to illness, he always enjoyed telling a good story. He lived the last 19 months at Huntcliff Sunrise Assisted Living in Sandy Springs.
Services will be at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Pio Nono Avenue at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 21st, followed by a graveside service at Hardies Chapel Church of Christ in Gordon at 3:45. Harry Goff will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the North Macon Church of Christ, 1190 Bass Road, Macon 31210. Serving as honorary pallbearers are his grandsons; Brian Driggars, Scott Goldstein, Mark Goldstein, Samuel Graham, Scott Graham, and Brian Peterson.
