Henry Jackson "Jack" Shumate, 75, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Towson, Mr. Leonard Grace and the Rev. Teresa Edwards will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and suggests that those who wish may make memorial contributions to Forest Hills United Methodist Church Building Fund or Organ Fund, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Mr. Shumate, son of the late Amon and Mary Lee Spires Shumate, was born in Telfair County and living in Macon most of his life, was a graduate of Lanier High School. He served with the Army National Guard retiring after thirty three years. Mr. Shumate was also retired from Robins Air Force Base after thirty three years service. He was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Grace Bible Class and a member of the Tuesday Morning Men's Prayer Breakfast. Mr. Shumate was an avid supporter of his community and was a member of the Exchange Club. He was a member of Marshall A. Weir Grand Lodge.
Mr. Shumate is survived by his wife and best friend of fifty-two years, Gloria C. Shumate of Macon; his daughter, Leigh (Edward) Vrable of Covington; three grandchildren, Jacob Wilder, Blake Wilder, both of Covington and Brenton (Sarah) Piper of Derry, PA; three great grandchildren; his brother, Billy (Welda) Shumate of Lizella and two nephews. -Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of arrangements.
