Helen C. Smith, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at her residence surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Lizella United Methodist Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Loran Smith, Rev. Richard Campbell and the Rev. Matt Stout will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time Wednesday at the Church. They suggest that those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
Mrs. Smith, daughter of the late Clarence and Frances Blasingame Chambless was born in Macon. Helen was a graduate of A.L. Miller, class of 1949, where she enjoyed being involved in class reunions. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years “Major” John D. Smith, Jr., and she enjoyed working on the family dairy. She was a longtime member of Lizella United Methodist Church, where she taught the Joy Sunday School Class, Lay Leader and was a presentator for “Fruit of Spirit”. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Survivors include her son, John Darby Smith of Reidsville, her daughter, Cherry Greene of Lizella; her son, David (Sharon) Smith of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Shane (Angel) Smith, Matt (Becky) Smith, David (Zan) Rickman, Sara Beth (Matt) Stout, Merry Anna (Thomas) Staub, Seth Greene, Hannah Leigh (Lee) Jarriel, Jake Smith and Colton Smith; great grandchildren; Mia, Matthew, Carter, David, Michaela, Sophia, Ruthie, Olivia, Roger, Austyn and Tripp, sisters; Annette (Johnny) Stallings of Jackson, Nancy (Richard) Campbell of Fayettville, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to United Hospice, Rosie Kent and Chiquita Hooks for the care and love given to Mrs. Smith.
