MACON, GA- Helen Mae Lewis passed away in her home in Macon on July 7, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday July 14, 2012 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Don VanHoozier will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012 from 7-9pm and Saturday from 9:30-10:20 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lewis was born May 17, 1927 in the Bibb County of Lorane, GA to the late Leonard and Linder Edwards. She spent most of her life in the Bibb County Macon area. She worked many years at the Macon Medical Center and in the latter part of her years she and Mr. Lewis attended to the special needs of many foster children. Mrs. Lewis spent four years in Alaska with her daughter Brenda from 2008-2011 and returned to her Macon home in November of 2011. She was preceded in death by husband, Matthew Amos Lewis; son, John Dennis Lawrence; and brothers, Oliver, Horace, Joe, James (Drawhorne), Wallace Edwards; and one sister Gertrude Tidwell.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by children, Clyde Turner (Rose)of Lizella, GA; Brenda Hutchens (Jack), and Glen Lawrence (Christine) of North Pole, AK; Bruce Lawrence of Valdez, AK; Brian Lawrence of Fairbanks, AK; George Lewis, and Stephen Lewis of Macon, GA; Betty Salmon (Kenny) of Mynock, NC; Janie Lucas (Hugh) of Rome, GA; Teresa McGrath (Ray) of Middleton, CA; Melba Gordon (John) of Orange Park, FL; Beverly Sargent (Mike) of Loxahatchee, FL; sister, Alma McCallum of Lizella, GA, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 54 foster children.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of the arrangements.
