She was born in Bad Kissingen, Germany on September 20, 1931, to Alfons and Agnes Feulner. She was the last of four children. In the early 1950’s, she met an American soldier stationed in Bad Kissingen, James Earl Tatum of Cartersville, Georgia, and fell in love. They married and had their first son, James Erich, who was born in Bad Kissingen in 1953. After two years, she immigrated to America with her husband, where they settled in Atco, Georgia, and raised four children, James, Evelyne, Kenneth, and Ray. Helen was widowed in 1976 and continued working in the textile industry until retirement.
In the mid-1980’s, her best friend, Ruby, introduced her to soulmate, Grady Clarence Harris, of Folsom, Georgia. They spent many wonderful years together until his death in 1995.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, a sister, two husbands, oldest son, James Tatum, and stepdaughter, Bobbie Zann Sirmons. She is survived by her children, Evelyne Louise (Steve) Crowe, Kenneth Earl Tatum, and Ray (Laura Ann) Tatum; her grandchildren, Taylor (Charlie) Cassidy of Macon, Emma (Cale) Stich of Macon, Katie (John) Eddins of Rockmart, Olivia (Jeff) Ricker and Josh Tatum of Tennessee; a special niece and nephew Christa and Fritz Bartholome of Augsburg, Germany; several step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville, Georgia, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 2 pm.
