Harris Vandell Yaughn, 83, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Services with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. John Beck officiating. The family will meet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 4600 Mercer University Drive, Macon 31206.
Mr. Yaughn, son of the late Lazarus (Ladd) and Florence Harris Yaughn, was born in Lizella and was a graduate of Crawford County High School. He served with the U. S. Air Force for twenty-three years during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his service to his country, he served in Japan, Alaska and twice in Newfoundland and various assignments in the U. S.
He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was also a longtime member and treasurer of the Flag City Mustang Club.
Survivors include his devoted wife of twenty-four years, Willie Heath Yaughn of Macon; his children, Gary Van Yaughn, Sr. (Cindy) of Lizella and Tomari Frick (Dave) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; his grandchildren, Gary Van Yaughn, Jr. (Erica), Amanda Frick, Ryan Frick and Alan Michael Smith; stepdaughter, Lisa Shepherd and his sister, Dorothy (Harold) Haygood.
