Harold Merlin Woodell passed away on Monday, March 17 at his residence. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Cherry Street. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, March 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel. The burial will be private following the funeral service.
Merlin was born in Macon, Georgia. He was predeceased by his son, Gary W. Woodell, parents, Melyear Woodell and Oma Shepard Woodell, and sisters, Nancy Woodell Locklear and Diane Woodell Bruce.
Merlin was a plumber and pipefitter and a member since 1955 of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 472, which later joined with local 72. He served as their President. Merlin served with the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Merlin was an avid golfer and former pro at Oak Haven golf course. He was a former member of the Brickyard and a current member of Forsyth Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Woodell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Vinson Woodell; daughter, Pamela Woodell-Patterson and son-in-law, James E. Patterson of Forsyth; daughter, Laura Woodell Woodall of Macon; grandchildren, Stephen Daniel Joyce of Kennesaw, John Eliotte Patterson, Kathryn Elizabeth Patterson and James Andrew Patterson, all of Forsyth; sisters, Nina Woodell Hawkins of Macon, Kathryn (Johnny) Fowler of Gray; brothers, Melyear (Mary) Woodell of Goodlettsville, TN, Lowrey Woodell of Macon, and Wayne Woodell of Macon; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to John Woodall Jr.
