Elizabeth Meta Reed Puckett died peacefully at her home on July 16, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Liberty United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Anthony and Dr. William W. (Billy) Oliver officiating. Following the interment, friends and family are invited to fellowship in the church’s Vinson Building. The family appreciates consideration of gifts made in memory of Elizabeth Reed Puckett to the Liberty United Methodist Music Fund.
Mrs. Puckett was born in Gastonia, NC, on March 26, 1942, to Edward Marle Reed and Dorothy Peters Reed Schofield Coolidge. After graduating from Southwest DeKalb High School, she married Benjamin Clyde Puckett, Jr. of Macon on March 20, 1960.
She and Benny moved to Vandenberg Air Force Base, California in 1961, returning to Macon in 1964. She taught piano while raising her family and returned to school, graduating from Wesleyan College in 1981 and completing her Master of Education degree in 1985.
Teaching at Heard School for nineteen years was one of her greatest legacies, becoming Teacher of the Year and Leading hundreds of students to love learning and to discover their own unique potential. She was also very active with the Macon Tennis Association, the Bibb County Republican Party and the Middle Georgia Regional Library Board of Trustees, where she helped bring the Lanford Library to South Bibb County. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where she often played the piano and taught Bible School.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, her children, Benjamin Reed (Derita) Puckett, Deborah Elise (Jewitt Kitchens) Puckett, Laura Puckett (Steve) Bell and Angela Puckett (Allen) Freeman. Her precious grandchildren – Reed, Nathan, Jewitt Jr., Jillian, Harrison, Gracie, Caroline and Allison – loved MaMa very much.
