LIZELLA – Dorothy “Dot” Vann Stokes, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2010 at her residence. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 30th at 11 a.m. at Mikado Baptist Church with burial at New Elim Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Joe Bowker and the Reverend Jimmy Towson will officiate. The family will meet friends on Wednesday, September 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Ralph H. Stokes, children: Harris (Jean) Stokes, Griffin; Brenda (Jim) Lambert, Macon; Susan (Bob) Thigpen, Dublin; Ann Grace Stokes, Lizella; Stuart (Kim) Stokes, Acworth; sister, Betty Vann Collins, Lizella; brother, James (Joyce) Vann, Orange Beach, Alabama, brother-in-laws, Hubert (Polly) Stokes, Eufaula, AL; Stanley (Virginia) Stokes, Monroe, GA; Charles (Barbre) Stokes, Houston, TX. Adored by their grandmother are Will Stokes, Christy Spurlin, Brad Whitfield, Meredith Voyles, Brian Horne, Rebecca Windham, Robyn Tanner, Matthew Stokes, Bethany Stokes, Zach Stokes, thirteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stokes graduated from A. L. Miller High School. She was an active member of Berean Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for years. Her love of children was exemplified by her participation in the Child Evangelism Program. She was a dedicated member of the Bibb County Homemakers and served as State President of the Georgia Homemakers Council. Her passion was sewing, especially for her family. She donated her expertise by making turbans and pillows for cancer patients.
