Doris Annette McElhenney, 84, passed away after a lengthy illness Sunday, July 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Ste. 300, Rockville, MD 20852, or the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry St., Macon, 31201.
Mrs. McElhenney was born in Milledgeville, Georgia and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Butler McElhenney, Sr. She retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base. Mrs. McElhenney was a member of Southside United Methodist Church and later Bloomfield United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class, Georgia Homemakers Association, Y Squares Square Dancing Club, and the Rum Creek Quilters. Mrs. McElhenney was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Survivors include her children, Edward (Elizabeth) McElhenney, Jr., Debbie Carpenter, and Sandra (Ricky) Bryant; five grandchildren, Spencer (Celeste) Carpenter, Jessica (Jeremy) Stewart, Justin (Lauren) Bryant, Kacie Carpenter, and Kyle Bryant; and eight great grandchildren.
