Dewey Henry Lamb, 92, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon, Georgia with Father Vernon Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 6:00pm at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with a visitation and reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph School and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Dewey was born on June 23, 1923 in Bleckley County, Georgia to Monroe Sanders Lamb and Sallie Mae Bell Lamb. He attended several schools throughout Central Georgia and lived most of his life in Macon, Georgia. Dewey married Dorothy May Cunningham on August 10, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon, Georgia. A Veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the US Army Air Corp. He retired from Robins Air Force Base after 32 years. His entire career was spent in the Aircraft Maintenance Branch where he held several supervisory positions including Assistant Branch Chief at the time of his retirement.
Dewey was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Dixie Senior Golf Association and former member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Riverside Golf and Country Club.
After retirement, he and “Tillie” spent 25 years as part-time residents of Fernandina Beach, Florida where they had many close friends. He enjoyed playing golf, salt-water fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by half-brothers, Eugene Lamb, Clifton Lamb, Lester Lamb and Bernard Howell; half-sister, Aline Howell Kimberly; sons, infant Christopher Paul Lamb and Curtis B. Lamb, Sr.; daughters, Sheila Lamb Harris Schwab and Dorothy Lamb Brock; and granddaughter, Michelle Lamb.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Tillie” of 74 years; sons, F. Maurice (Lilly) Lamb and Richard L. (Patricia) Lamb; daughters, Mary Ann Lamb Doyle, Carolyn Lamb Raines and Katherine Lamb White; brother, Leon F. Lamb; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
