Mr. Dondes died peacefully at home Monday, February 15 after a long illness. He was surrounded by his beloved family. Mr. Dondes was born May 26, 1949 to Aaron Dondes and Gladys Lynch Dondes in Macon, Georgia.
David attended Pearl Stephens Elementary school and Lanier Jr. and Sr. High schools. He worked at Penney’s and Zayres during high school. He was a member of DEOC coed club.
He attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran. After college he worked for A.B. Dick Co. After 7 years he started work at Robins A.F.B. as an electronic technician. He retired in 2012 after 30 years.
David was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Cathe (Parker); 2 daughters, Christina Walker and Kate Darley (David Hajney); and 5 adored grandchildren, Savannah and Maggie Walker, and Hailey, Logan, and Domenic Darley; 3 sisters, Donna Krug of Orange California, Karen Stewart (Steve), Anne Armstrong and a niece, Heather Pitman (Evan).
He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, and stepfather, Crawford Birlen Armstrong.
David was a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and soundman.
David was known as “Mr.-Fix-It”. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. He gave much time and money to helping others.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Organization, Jay’s Hope (kids with cancer), or Covenant Care Adoption Services. It is also requested by the family that those attending his service please wear masks.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at North Macon Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Todd officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
