Clarence Eugene “Gene” Bell, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Bonnie Sanders officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s charity of choice in his name.
Gene was born on April 2, 1935 in Hamilton, Mississippi to the late Clarence Eugene and Fonnie Nix Bell and is preceded in death by his brothers, James Edward Bell and Loyd Lee Bell. He graduated from Hamilton High School, Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University and received a Masters in Mathematics from Louisiana State University. Gene retired from Mercer University in 1992 and began working with his son, Alan, at a retail computer store, Quality Computer Systems. Gene was an avid MSU and LSU football fan and enjoyed working in his yard, bowling, and reading, especially history and religion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Lanelle Vickrey Bell; children, Laura Bell Register (Ashley) and Alan Eugene Bell (Annabelle Aquino); grandchildren, Ellen Register, Anna Register and Prescott Register; and sister, Ellen Uithoven.
