Chuck was born on August 22, 1952 in Warner Robins, Georgia to Richard and Betty Sanders.
Chuck graduated from The University of Georgia Cum Laude in Journalism. He returned to Macon and worked as a licensed optician at his family’s business, Oldham’s Opticians.
He is survived by his children, Riley (Manojna) Sanders of Little Rock, Arkansas, Zachary (Caitlin) Sanders of Norman, Oklahoma, and Carlye (Ethan) Kumpula of Perry, Georgia, granddaughters Mila Sanders and Ada Kumpula. He is also survived by his sister Camille Sanders (Tom Powell) of Riverside, California and his brother Scott Sanders of Athens. He is survived by his friend, Joyce Sparks of Perry, mother of his children Val Sanders of Perry, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Chuck was known for his wit and humor and could be recognized by his infectious smile. He enjoyed music, fishing with his boys, and spending time with his extensive family and friends. He loved the beach, kayaking, traveling and enjoying a good meal. He was a devoted “Pop Pop” and cherished the time he had with his granddaughters.
He was a member of the Optical Association of America, Opticians Association of Georgia, and South East Association of Opticians.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2PM at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 746 Cherry Street, Macon, Ga., with John Scott officiating.
Chuck is preceded in death by his father Charles Richard Sanders Sr, mother Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Oldham Sanders, and sister Gail Sanders.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to The American Cancer Society in his memory.
