Charles “Charlie” “Buck” Haygood, 75, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, November 24, 2017. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Joe McDaniel, Rev. Ben Haygood, Chief Marvin Riggins and Dr. Charles Richardson officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Buck was born in Macon, Georgia to the late I.E. “Jack” and Rose Moseley Haygood. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rose Charlene “Shelly” Haygood, granddaughter, Ashlee Shea Haygood and sister, Gypsy Skelton. Buck was a graduate of Lanier High School and after graduation, he was signed by the Detroit Tigers and then traded to St. Louis Cardinals. He was a former member of Midway Baptist Church and Mabel White Baptist Church. Buck was retired from the Macon Bibb County Fire Department as a Captain after 18 years of service. He was a Mason/Shriner and enjoyed playing golf, camping and the outdoors. Buck was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellen Johnson Haygood of Macon, son, Shane (Nancy) Haygood of Gainesville, GA, granddaughter, Kaitlyn (Cameron) Fulcher of Cumming, GA, great grandson, Caden Fulcher of Cumming, siblings, Jackie (David) Glover of Bluffton, SC, Winnie (Lamar) Tidwell of Macon, Ginger (Mike) Turner of Shiloh, GA, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
