After battling multiple cancers over 8 years, Papa Charlie age 88 of Macon, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on Nowell Road South on September 7, 2021. A visitation will be held September 11, 2021 where family will greet friends from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00 am where you may join us in celebrating the life of Papa Charlie with Reverend Franklin Etheridge and Pastor Ed Chambless officiating. A private Graveside service will be held for the family in Columbus, GA.
Charles was born on January 10, 1933 in Allentown, KY. He served his country in the United States Army for over 20 years and retired as Sgt. First Class, earning a Bronze Star. After retiring, he drove tractor trailer trucks until the age of 82. Charles was a Past Master of William A. Davis Daylight Lodge #753 and earned a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, with over 50 years of service as a shiner helped children with disabilities. He was also a member of the Grand Court of Georgia - Order of the Amaraths, where he held the position of Grand Royal Patron from 1998-1999, which raises money for diabetic research. He was a faithful member and deacon at Wheeler Heights Baptist Church.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Wood Garry. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Hall (Roy); sons, George Wood (Rhonda) and Bobby Wood (Fay); grandchildren, Teri Bailey (Trent), Robby Wood (Cynthia), Lisa Hardy (Bruce), Tina Pittman (Joe), Rachel Singletary (Mark), Leslie Faulk (Blake), Wesley Wood, Jennifer Roberts (John), Mia, Jeremy Hamm (Kate) James and Jenna; and many other great grandchildren.
