Charles E. Day, Sr. was born in McIntyre, Georgia on May 2, 1938 to Harvey and Ruby Tarpley Day and grew up in Toomsboro, Georgia. Charlie was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church. He was employed at Armstrong World Industries for forty years. He began working for Armstrong at the tender age of eighteen and retired as a supervisor at the age of fifty-eight. Charlie loved all sports. He played basketball in school and later on coached his son Eddie and daughter Melody in baseball and softball. While working at Armstrong he coached the baseball team. Charlie also loved people unconditionally, in fact the family said he was the MVP in the game of life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Joyce Kitchens Day; daughters, Melody Day Knight (Cathy), Celeste Arthur, and Marian Barber (Kirk); sister, Joyce Ramsey (Sam); grandchildren, Brandon Knight, Amanda Artman, Kristen Day, Kathryn Hardy, Jonathan Hardy, Philip Barber, Collin Barber, Andrew Barber, Michael Barber, and Tyler Arthur; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with Reverend Bill Linder officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church in Dry Branch, Georgia.
