Charles “Bug” Boone Jr., aged 85, peacefully entered the kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family. A Celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Dziadul officiating.
Charles was born and raised in Telfair County, Ga, to the late Charles Columbus Boone and Lillar Boone (Williams) and spent his childhood and adolescence helping tend to his family’s farm. After graduating Telfair County High School, he moved to Macon, Ga, with his beloved late wife, Doris Estelle Boone (McGovern), whom he remained faithfully married to for over 50 years. As a dedicated factory worker at Armstrong World Industries until his retirement, Charles exemplified commitment and hard work in all aspects of his life. His unwavering devotion to the Baptist faith shaped his character and influenced the lives of those around him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles will be most fondly remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather (PaPa), uncle, and brother. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of his family.
He is survived by his sons, Charles Anthony “Andy” (Joni) Boone and Dr. Daniel (Shannon) Boone; five grandchildren: Ashlee (Mark), Matthew (Rosemary), Kaitlyn, Addison, and Liam; and great-grandchildren, Adelyn and Hallie Kate, along with several nieces and nephews. Charles adored his family and took great pride in watching them grow and succeed.
Charles will be deeply missed for his gentle, laid-back nature and his good-natured, wisecracking sense of humor. He had a simple taste for slacks and t-shirts, and while he may have been financially thrifty (or “tight” as he would say) with his money when tending to his own needs, he never hesitated to generously provide the best life possible for his wife, children, and grandchildren, without worrying about himself. His selflessness and generosity have left an indelible mark on those he cared for.
Though Charles' passing leaves an unfillable gap in the lives of his friends and family, his memory will endure through those who knew and loved him. The impact he made on our lives will continue to inspire us to be kind, loving, and giving, just as he was throughout his remarkable life.
As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the joy he brought to all who knew him and find comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
We will forever love and remember our beautiful father and grandfather.
