Cecil Rex Evans Sr., 93, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 3, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park with the Rev. Andy Cook officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, to the late Tom and Ida Evans. Rex lived most of his life in Macon. He worked 39 years for Norfolk-Southern Railroad as a claims adjuster, was an active member of multiple churches and a devoted family man. Rex was married to the love of his life, Melrose Bowen, for nearly 60 years before he passing August 31, 2008. Rex and Melrose loved to travel, whether it was visiting family members or touring Canada, Europe, or Israel. The president of his class, Rex graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus in 1946. He graduated Cum Laude from Armstrong College in Savannah with a business administration degree. Rex was a life-long servant leader in churches and community organizations. He was in a variety of leadership positions with the Kiwanis organizations and was an ordained deacon and key leader in churches he served in Columbus, Savannah, Macon, and Birmingham. Rex also loved to fish, watch birds and take his growing family to vacation spots in South Carolina and Florida. In later years, he was a beloved resident at Carlyle Place in Macon.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Lloyd Evans; and grandson, Sean Harris.
Survivors include his daughters, Gayle Miller and husband David, Donna Walters, all of Macon, Melody Cook and husband Rev. Andy of Fort Valley; sons, Rex Evans, Jr. and wife Dara of Macon, Richard Evans and wife Elaine of Juliette; 13 grandchildren, Keasha Harris, Katie Miller, Jamie (LeaAnne) Walters, Clint Evans, Clay (Sally) Evans, Dustin (Amber) Evans and Daniel Evans, Roman Evans, Hannah (Clayton) Potts, Summer (Mike) Bolte, Melinda (Joshua) Barlow and Courtney (Danny) Delgado; 30 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Teel and Esther Whitley; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
