Catherine Mae McCallum

Catherine Mae McCallum went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, May 27, 2017. She was born October 9, 1926 to James and Opal Hightower in Macon, Georgia and lived in Macon and Lizella all of her life. She attended Pearl Stephens School and Lanier High School for Girls.

On December 26, 1941, at the age of 15, she married Virgil D. McCallum, Sr. in Jeffersonville, Georgia. She was a dedicated wife and mother to her eight children. For fifteen years, she drove their privately owned school bus to Joseph Riley School.

She enjoyed gospel singing, watching the birds, and loved trips to the mountains. Her most favorite times were the home prayer meetings with her dear friends through the years. She is a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star organization.

Mrs. McCallum was a caring Granny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil McCallum, Sr., her granddaughter, April Crook, and her grandson, Dell Crook. She is now at peace in the arms of Jesus and no longer grieving for her husband, whom she loved so much.

Survivors include her eight children, Virgil (Kay) McCallum of Macon, Donald (Ann) McCallum of Macon, Jimmy McCallum of Lizella, Linda (Steve) Malone of Macon, Brenda (Larry) Veronee of Macon, Vickie (Furney) Mishoe of Macon, Cathy (Richard) Jones of Macon, and Preston (Susan) of Lizella; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

We are thankful for the love and care that PruittHealth-Peake gave to our Mother during her stay.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, Knoxville Road, Lizella. Visitation will begin at 10:30. Dr. Neal Wall and Rev. Jerry Garner will officiate. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Bethel Baptist Church.
