Bert Daniel Schwartz, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road with visitation following. Burial will be private for family only at Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Joe McDaniel and Rev. Kevin Mills will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to your favorite charity.
Bert was born in Macon, Georgia on April 5, 1933 he was the son of Sol and Florence Schwartz. Mr. Schwartz attended Winship Grammar School, Lanier High School, Auburn University and graduated from Mercer University. While at Mercer, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, The Dixie Conference Champions (1950-1951), The Reserve Officer Training Corps and The National Society of Scabbard and Blade. He excelled in tennis and basketball and in 1960 won the City Golf Tourney.
Mr. Schwartz was employed in the family business, Boston Leather Company, He owned a ladies and children’s dress shop, Jories, and later worked for Blue Bird Bus Sales and Yancey Brothers Company.
He was a former member of the Rotary Club and the Macon Civic Club. He was a member of Idle Hour Golf and Country Club, Mercer Hall of Fame and the Macon Bibb County Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Wasden Schwartz, sons; Danny (Mary) Schwartz, Chuck (Amanda) Schwartz, Coleman (LeeAnne) Schwartz, Taylor (Tiffany) Schwartz of Atlanta; his brother, Dr. Robert Schwartz and his sister, Gloria Brody; ten grandchildren and his great grandson was born on his 90th birthday, Dawson Murray Schwartz.
