Barbara Andrews Turner gracefully departed this life surrounded by family and adored by friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life. She and the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Virgil Turner Jr, were married 71 years, and had three sons who made her extremely proud. Jim (Paige) of Macon, Michael (Karen) of Peachtree City, and Joe, who awaited his Mother anxiously in heaven.
Barbara gained recognition early as a talented artist working with both watercolor and oils on canvas. Her love of reading novels enhanced her ability to instinctively move her hand across the canvas with more details, creating expressive emotion and a story for each picture. Her original works of art for exhibition won her countless ribbons throughout the Southeast. She was a true artist, one who saw the world for how it was supposed to be seen; with an open heart, mind, soul.
Barbara and Jimmy traveled extensively throughout their lives both with family and friends, enjoying new surroundings and experiences. Each journey brought them art, history, adventure, foreign culture and new friends. In addition, her life was filled with entertaining, playing bridge, attending book club, volunteerism and her church family. Yet no matter how involved, she always had time for a phone call or visit, often reminding us of the preciousness of life.
Barbara is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Logan (Pat) Mulligan of Alpharetta, Alicia (Wesley Cole) Turner of Maryville Tn, Max (Akari) Turner of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Taylor (Claire) Turner of Canton and Michala (Austin) Eppley of Huntersville NC. also 6 great-grandchildren; Collins & William Mulligan, JT Cole, Emma & Leo Turner, and Lillian Turner.
The family wishes to thank her loving friends who supported this transition, the wonderful caregivers from Angels at Home and the compassionate staff of enhabit Hospice. Few people possess the considerate, unselfish, loving heart that you all have – and even fewer are willing to give so much of themselves. You have made a lasting impression on our minds and in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Methodist Church with Dr. Baxter Hurley officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
