Alvin Royce Hattaway, 96, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017. A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will be in Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Stephen Kitchens officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the Mausoleum.
Mr. Hattaway was born in Laurens County, Georgia to the late Jordan and Etta Holton Hattaway. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sgt. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the American Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal and the World War II Victory Medal. Alvin was a barber for forty three years in Macon. In 1955 he was Snooker Billard and Pool Champion of the Southeast. He was a member of Vineville Baptist Church. Mr. Hattaway loved working with his hands and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his children; David (Jackie) Hattaway of Martinez, Charlotte Hattaway Sumner of Augusta, Jimmy (Debbie) Hattaway of Augusta, and Sheree Hattaway (Wayne) Duncan of Macon, grandchildren, Diane (John) Hattaway Hathorn, Wayne (Amy) Hattaway, Andrea (Erik) Hattaway Stuckart, Kelley Hattaway Thames, Susan Sumner (Ronald) Thomas, Jennifer Sumner (Kenneth) Ivey, Kristen Sumner, and Lindsay Brett Duncan and fourteen great grandchildren.
