William E. Doll, 82, of Rockford, died on November 15, 2010 in Swedish American Hospital after a short illness. Born March 6, 1928 in Omro, WI the son of William and Edna (Davidson) Doll. Married Audrey Blank on July 16, 1955. Bill started his career as a teacher and football coach at Manawa and Ashland High Schools and retired from Sundstrand as a Personnel Director. He played the saxophone and clarinet in numerous bands including his own “Bill Doll Jazztet” He played consistently at Franchesco’s, Fibs, Stockholm Inn, The Butterfly and The Manor. He also played at many of the 4th of July parades and On The Waterfront. He was a member and director of the Rockford Barbershoppers for the past 38 years. Also, he sang baritone in his Barbershop Quartet, The Tag-A-Longs. One thing that Bill always said was “ When you are harmonizing in four parts you can’t be mad at anybody”. He won the RAMI lifetime achievement award and several Best of Rockford Awards. He also enjoyed reading, hiking, traveling, making a fire in the fireplace and drinking a strong cup of coffee. Bill loved his family dearly and would do anything to support them. He was a wonderful husband and father. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey Doll; children, Dan Doll, Jane Doll, Jerry Doll, Diane Doll and Cathy (Paul)Doll Marsh; granddaughter, Danielle Doll; grandson, Zachary Marsh; sister Janet Clark; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Clark; sister-in-law, Margaret Doll; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Friday, November 19, 2010 in Holy Family Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. Private entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
