Shirley J. Neff

Shirley J. Neff, 92, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, December 5, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born August 10, 1930 in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Keith and Gertrude (Strong) Henry. Shirley married her sweetheart, Martin Neff, Jr. on June 18, 1949 in Cherry Valley. She was a faithful member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, where she served in various capacities. Shirley enjoyed shopping; traveling with Martin, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed.

Shirley is missed by her loving husband of 73 years, Martin Neff, Jr.; children, Gerald (Aimee) Neff and Susan (Fred) Allen; grandchildren, Ariel (Adam) Andrea and Brent (Laura) Winkler; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Jaxon; sister, Doris (Butch) DeVries; as well as two nieces, Linda and Vicki. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
