Robert A. Lindstrom, a lifelong resident of Rockford, IL passed away on December 22, 2021 at his home. Born April 26, 1930, son of Clarence R Lindstrom and Gula (Hill) Lindstrom. Married Adele M. “Del” Lund on October 7, 1950. Employed at Sundstrand Corp. as a supervisor of Systems and Programming, retiring in 1991 after 41 years of service.
After graduating from West High in 1948, Bob joined the Illinois National Guard. He entered the US Army during the Korean conflict. He served as a company commander as a 1st Lieutenant. Later in his service in the US Army Reserve, he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Bob retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service. He was very proud of his time in the military and said it was an honor to serve our country.
Bob was very involved with his family, serving as PTA president, Cub and Boy Scout Master, Explorer Scouts, YMCA Indian Guides, Little League and Pony League Baseball. Bob was always involved in home improvement “projects”. He enjoyed assisting his children and grandchildren remodeling kitchens, bathrooms, basements, porches and patios.
In retirement, Bob worked on honing his golf game. He played in the Sundstrand Retired Men’s Golf League and served as treasurer for 22 years. He was invited to participate as a senior member of The Goon Squad and played golf on the “Funny Tour” at various courses in IL and WI. Bob recorded four holes-in-one. Bob enjoyed playing golf, but admitted he was luckier than good.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Adele, sons Jeffery (Pam), and Steven (Penny), daughters Roberta “Robin” (Dan) Johnson and Beth (Brian) Holcomb, all of Rockford, grandchildren Seth (Erin) Lindstrom, Mitchell Lindstrom, Adam DeCastro, Zachary Johnson, Natalie (Johnson) Nate Gillette, Amanda (Holcomb) Josh Scharre, Brandon (Jenn) Holcomb, Stephanie (Holcomb) Nick Benjamin, great grandchildren Landon, Jacob, Carter, Tyler and Madison Lindstrom, Jaxson “J.J.” and Drake Gillette, MacKenzie and Ian Scharre, Presley and Bristol Holcomb and Cali and Micah Benjamin.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard H. Lindstrom.
