Richard “Dick” G. McIntyre 82 of Rockford passed away September 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by family after battling cancer courageously for three years. Born February 20, 1932 in Freeport, he was the son of A. Joseph and Lucille (Ney) McIntyre. He married Marlene Cronau on November 27, 1954 in Freeport at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A Veteran of the Korean War, Richard served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He moved to Rockford in 1963 and joined St. Edward Parish, where he was a very active member for 52 years. He was employed by Chrysler Corporation as a supervisor for 23 years and retired in 1988. He also worked as a fast food manager and a driver for Septran for 10 years.
Richard was a great “all out” fan of Notre Dame, Chicago Bears, and even the Cubs since he was a teenager. He enjoyed Square Dancing and was a charter member of Thunderbird Squares. His passion was his garden.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marlene McIntyre; children, Colleen (Fred Adams) Talkington, Brenda (John Buchmann) Gustafson, Brian (Julie), Daniel, and Scott (Dione Black) McIntyre; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas (Elsie), and David (Nancy) McIntyre; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers, and a sister.

Funeral mass 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, at St. Edward Parish, 3020 11th Street, Rockford; with Father Dean Russell officiating. Visitation 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, September 12, at Sunset Funeral Home; with Rosary at 7 p.m. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
