Norma C. Hovey

Norma C. Hovey, 99, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024. She was born to Roscoe and Elizabeth Cannon in Chicago Heights on January 2, 1925. After graduating from Bloom Township High School in 1943, Norma started her career with Illinois Bell as a secretary. Norma eventually worked her way up to an executive secretary with AT&T before retiring. Amongst this, she was also a proud member of Professional Secretaries International. On December 17, 1955, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hovey, who preceded her in death in 1998.

In her retirement, Norma enjoyed listening to the radio, playing solitaire, feeding the outside animals, and spending time with her dogs and a good cup of black coffee.

Norma is survived by her nieces and nephews, Wes (Terri) Cannon, Terry Reynolds, Doug (Felicia) Cannon, Cris (Chuck) Letko, Elizabeth (David) Williams, and David Nelson; many great-nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death, as well as her parents, Roscoe and Elizabeth; siblings, Donald (Harriet) Cannon, Faye (James) Hawkins, Lester Cannon, Kenneth Cannon, and Jean (William) Nelson.
