Michael J Larson, age 68, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Michael was born on September 22, 1955 to Lyle and Mary Larson in Rockford, Illinois. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1973. He met the love of his life, Susan, in 1987, and they were married on December 2, 1989. Michael worked at Valspar for over 40 years, mastering many different roles until his retirement in 2015.
Michael loved to restore old cars. While he never got his hands on a ’55 Chevy, he spent his free time fixing up classics and putting together his collection. He always dreamed of taking one of his cars to the drag strip, but he would make do with taking his grandkids for a wild ride and passing on his love of racing to them. Michael also loved to fish, and he made it a family affair. He would take his children fishing on their birthdays. Susan would pack a picnic basket, and the whole family would go out and fish for hours. He got to spend quality time with them, making memories while catching whatever would bite. Everything Michael loved to do ultimately centered on his family. They loved to laugh together during family dinners, holidays, and any other time they got to be together. He taught his kids to have compassion, a good work ethic, but most importantly how to be a good parent. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Susan Larson; his children Jeremy (Andrea) Larson, Myles (Krista) Scott, Matthew (Jax) Scott, and Mary (Ryan) Samuelson; his grandchildren Mason, Joseph, Peyton, Judd, Charley, and Jaxon; his siblings Jack (Kathy) Larson and Jerry Larson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mary Larson; and his brother Larry Larson.
