Melba Louella (Nichols) Howlett, 88, of Loves Park passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at Maple Crest Care Center in Belvidere, IL. Born July 9, 1922 in Bernie, MO; the daughter of the late Thomas and Lena (Roberts) Nichols. Melba married Roy Curtis Howlett on March 30, 1940 in Kennett, MO. He preceded her in death May 1, 2004. They were married 65 years at the time of Roy's passing. Survivors include her children, Curtis (Charlotte) Howlett, Barbara McCanless of Leasburg, MO, Geneva Howlett of Rockford, IL, Angela Howlett of Phoenix, AZ and Thomas (JoGena) Howlett of Rockford, IL, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, Jerry Howlett, Sharon Howlett McNabb, Lester Howlett. Phyllis Howlett Baker, four grandchildren, one sister and five brothers. Melba enjoyed playing bingo, watching her soaps on T.V, music and was an avid Cubs fan. Melba was a loving mother and the best mother-in-law anyone could ask for. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday, April 15, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
