Larry F. Martin, Sr., 83, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Larry was born on March 17, 1940 to Fred and Laura Martin. Larry married the love of his life, Carol Jackna on January 24, 1959. Larry worked at Carlson Roofing for many years prior to starting his own roofing company, Martin's Roofing. Larry enjoyed camping, building and tinkering with things, gambling, telling jokes and hanging with the family. He loved the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and especially DA Bears. One of his favorite pastimes was watching the Price is Right.
Survivors include wife of 64 years, Carol; children, Luker (Keisha) Martin, Charlene (Ron) Boxrud; grandchildren, Joseph, Cameron Martin (and their mother, Lori), Carolynn, Ron (Sara) Boxrud; great grandchildren, Kaeleigh Fitz-Richard, Chandler Jack, Madisyn Koehler; siblings, Leo, Gerald, Danny Martin, Betty Thurow, Sandra Constant; numerous nieces and nephews; and favorite four-legged companion, Samantha. Predeceased by son, Joe; parents; siblings, Bill, Eddie, Al, Butch Martin, Mary Jane Zinke; and mother-in-law, Mary I. Wilson.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 11, 2023 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park with a visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Northern Illinois Food Bank.
