Karen was born in Chicago on April 19, 1936 to the late Edwin E. Miklas and the late Mary (Longner, née Rzonca). She kept her brother, Eddie, on his toes! We will miss all those stories about their childhood antics. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, humorous sarcasm, and that twinkle in her eye!
Karen was predeceased by her beloved son Scott Schloff and her much loved daughter Kimberly Wiles, and survived by her devoted son David Wiles. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Christopher and LeeAnn Schloff, Nicholas Schloff, Natasha White, Jennifer Winquist, Bradley Winquist, and Matthew and Morgan Winquist, great grandmother of Natalie, Adeline, James, Andrew, Tristen, Martin, Brandon, Avanell, Mercedes, Sebastian, Havana, Amyleah, and Leland, and great–great grandmother of Brantley James. Karen was the cherished sister of Edwin D. and Janet Miklas. Karen was also loved dearly by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Before retirement, Karen worked as the Supervisor of Environmental Services at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for 25 years. She took great pride in her responsibilities and continually strived to ensure the highest standards were achieved and maintained. She had a beautiful way of bringing out the best in her staff and creating a strong, hardworking team. She never let up on her keen eye for cleanliness in a hospital, even during her last few months as a patient.
Karen enjoyed fishing when she had a chance, but more than anything, she loved being with friends and family, talking politics, telling stories, and cooking up a storm for them! She was a great cook, and everyone knew it. Not only did she enjoy it, but also it was her love language to others. Whether it was for a neighbor, friend, or even a quick visit from a relative, she made sure to prepare a dish with love. She even spoiled her beloved dogs throughout the years with home cooked meals. Her dogs were family members to Karen.
She was the happiest when she was with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren! She would spend every chance she could with them.
Special thanks to our angel Yvonne Rose for her kind and compassionate care during Karen’s last few months.
Karen’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2nd at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, Illinois 61111. The visitation will be from 9:30AM to 10:30AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30AM.
Karen will be laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery, 6202 Charles Street, Rockford, Illinois 61108.
