Karen Johnson, 69, of Rockford, passed away Thursday morning, July 2, 2020 after a long illness. She was born September 10, 1950 in Rockford, the daughter of Richard and Mildred (Hevrin) Skrinski. Karen married the love of her life, Joseph Johnson on August 19, 1972. She worked in the cafeteria of Riverdahl, Jackson and Swan-Hillman Elementary Schools for many years. Karen loved camping, fishing and traveling. She had an adventurous spirit who always had a joke to tell. Karen adored children, and was a Girl Scout leader. Above all, she had a caring and giving heart who loved her family.
Karen is loved and missed by her children, Brian (Anndraia) Johnson, Heather Johnson, and Michelle Johnson; grandchildren, Brianna and Brian Johnson; siblings, Marcia (Pete) Palmenderi, Rick (Laura Johnson) Skrinski, Doug Skrinski, Nancy (Dave) Loomis, and Kathy (Tim) Elliott; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Joseph.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a visitation to be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family.
