On December 12, 2023, our loving Jennifer Jo Thomas went to rest with our Heavenly Father. Jennifer was born in Cincinnati, Ohio December 3, 1950. Jennifer moved to Rockford, IL in 1956. She graduated from West High School June, 1969. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree from Cardinal Stritch University, June, 2007.
Jennifer accepted Christ at an early age and continued to praise Him throughout her life. She attended City First Church and served as a greeter. She was active in the community and did volunteer work at the YMCA and Midway Village. Her Christian experience led her to have a very caring heart and giving spirit. She donated to various charities Feed The Children, Saint Jude, Shriners Hospital and many more. Jennifer was an amazing cook, she would often share her talent by delivering the food she made to her elderly friends. Jennifer was also an extremely generous person, always refusing to have garage sales, she would simply give everything she no longer had a use for away to someone who needed it.
Jennifer worked at Quaker Oats until it closed January, 1987. She worked at Woodward Governor and Chrysler. In 2008 she got a job working for the State of Illinois and retired from there October, 2020.
Preceding her in death are her parents, James and Eula Mae Thomas and brother, Tony Thomas. Jennifer leaves behind to mourn her loving son, Richard Smith and 2 dogs, JoJo and Chloe who were special in her life. She, also, leaves behind two brothers, James Thomas, Jr and Jerome (Joyce) Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is survived by two special friends, Jeanette Phillips, Yvonne Warner, Rosemary Moore, Roy Montgomery and Creola Colon (Mercedes & Pablo, godchildren).
Throughout Jennifer‘s life she was an active and spirited person. During the 1970s and 80s she performed at the, then New American Theater and once won a Lola Falana look-alike contest. She enjoyed walking, shopping, traveling, gardening and working on her house. Jennifer had a compassionate heart for those in need which attests to the spirit of God that shined through her. Jennifer's family and friends will forever miss her laugh, beautiful smile, and perfectly timed jokes.
