Jean Noland Moore

Jean (Noland) Moore, 94, died peacefully in her sleep on December 19, 2021. She was born August 25, 1927, in Breeds, Illinois, the daughter of Harlowe and Mary (Childers) Noland. She was the oldest of eight children. Jean received her nursing degree from Bradley University and was a surgical nurse and nurse administrator at various hospitals during her working career. She married Rex Moore in 1950 and they had one son, Chris. She and her family moved to the Chicago area in 1955 where she lived until 1976. She subsequently lived in South Bend, Indiana, Sun City West, Arizona, and Rockford, Illinois.

Jean was kind, generous and loving. Her nursing career had a major impact on her family and others. She was a mentor to her son, influencing his interest in medicine and ultimate career choice. Additionally, Jean and her husband Rex housed a troubled teen for a year, mentoring her until she could get her life back in order. She and Rex moved to Rockford to be involved in the lives of their grandsons during their formative years. Ryan and Grant especially enjoyed the weekly dinners at grandma’s house, unaccompanied by their parents. Jean was a great cook and her many recipes have been passed down to the subsequent generations.

Jean was very active in her church and community. She taught the Bethel Bible series for several years. She was active in school P.T.O. and was a Cub Scout leader. She was a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) and was a strong advocate for women’s career advancement. She was a church volunteer and, following her retirement from nursing, she volunteered at several hospitals. In her free time she took art lessons and became quite accomplished in oil painting.

Jean is survived by four younger siblings, Mavis, Dean, Jim, and Jerry; her son, Dr. Chris Moore; two grandsons, Ryan (Christina) and Grant (Erin); four great-grandchildren (Emma, Landon, Claire, and Hudson). She is predeceased by her husband, Rex; siblings, Bob, Richard and Archie: and daughter-in-law, Karen.

A private, family memorial service and inurnment will be held at Sunset Funeral Home in Machesney Park, Illinois. Memorials can be made to Good Samaritan fund at Wesley Willows.
