Harold W. Appelquist, 90, of Ft. Myers FL, formerly of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8 in Ft. Myers. Harold was born on April 25, 1921 in Rockford he was the son of Axel and Ellen Appelquist. He lived in Rockford for 70 years before moving to Ft. Meyers. Harold served as a United States Marine in WWII, he loved golfing, watching baseball and football especially the Cubs and the Bears, but he really enjoyed watching his sons play different sports while they were growing up. Left to share in his memory are his wife; Marie, his children; Dianne Watson, Donna (Maurice) Appelquist-Spencer, David (Deborah) Appelquist, Douglas (Debbie) Appelquist, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brothers Leonard and Richard Appelquist, sister Dixie Carlson, many nieces and nephews, and step-children, Connie (Jerry) Olin, and John (Cheryl) Happ. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice (Kitty) Appelquist, his parents, and 2 sisters, a funeral service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park, 61115. With a visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made in his name to Toys for Tots. The rest of the family would like to especially thank his Daughter Donna for all of her special care she gave to Dad.
