her loving family. Gail was born on September 5, 1955 in Rockford, IL daughter to George and
Marjorie Haller. Gail is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Randy Whelchel; daughter
Bridget (Ben) Creswell; son Derrick (Laura) Whelchel; grandchildren, Jalen and Tayler
Whelchel, Reese, Natalie and Kaylie Creswell, Erin and Evyan Sissum; great-granddaughter, Kynzlee Harek; her sister Susan (Jerry) Smith and brother Steven Haller; her beloved dogs Mitzy, Brewski and Brandy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Marjorie Haller; sister Lynn Stanton; brother Larry Haller, and sister in-law Kathy Haller and her
beloved Golden Retriever Payton and Yorkie Bukus.
Gail graduated from Harlem High School class of 1974, where she met and fell in love with the
love of her life Randy Whelchel. Gail was known for her wonderful sense of humor, wit, and her
zest for life. She is known for always “making it happen” in all aspects of her life. She was a
lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Her dreams came true on November 2, 2016 when the
Cubbies won the 2016 World Series. She was also known for her travels to get that one in a
million photo or chance to meet her childhood heroes like Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, and
many more. She loved her Chicago Bears meeting Gayle Sayers, Mike Ditka, Dick Butkus, just
to name a few. Gail also loved photography. Her favorite photos are those of her grandbabies,
but she also liked to take nature pictures. It could be hummingbirds, waterfalls, sunrise and
sunsets at their place in Conover, Wi.
The family extends heartfelt thank you to the staff at Swedish American Hospital ICU in
Rockford, IL. They provided outstanding care and were there to hold her hand and comfort her
when we couldn’t be there due to Covid 19.
Graveside service for immediate family will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm May 20, 2020 at
Sunset Memorial Gardens.
